FIRST TIME
I remember the first time I lost in my favorite sport. It was painful, it was sad, it was full of regrets, I did everything to win, yet it turned out to be a failure. Well what can I do? I was just a child, a very arrogant child, in fact. I underestimated my opponents just because I am gifted in that sport. I really always thought I was the best, I needn't practice, everyone is inferior. Unlike my best friend, Bono, who'd always practice and say "Matatalo rin kita Vance" I'll just slack off and waste my time day dreaming. To be honest I didn't think that He'll be able to beat me in a thousand years because he was really bad at it. After a few months a tournament came up and as you'd expect I enlisted myself, filled with arrogance I thought the champion was already decided.
That day finally came, I reached the finals without breaking a sweat. "Panalo na ako, champion na naman... hehehe. Sino kaya yung susunod na madudurog?" I said to myself not knowing the approaching defeat.
On the game, with a minute left on the clock and a tied score, I decided to use my ace which I decided to only use on the direst of situation. The next thing that happened was the most shocking, it was countered, it was shattered. My opponent's move was so good I thought that it was impossible to do, and with my ace broken, "Talo si Vance!!! Natalo si Vance!!!". It was my loss
After the game I nearly cried while waiting for the champ to give a hand shake. When the champ stood up, I saw a familiar face it was Bono, my best friend who had no talent at all. His words "Sabi ko sayo eh matatalo rin kita" while shaking my hand striked me. "Yeah tol, next time ako naman ang challenger" I said while turning my back.
After experiencing that big defeat, I realized the error of my ways. Thanks to that, thanks to my FIRST TIME LOSING and the lessons from my best friend Bono, that I was able to evolve to a better player.
It was full of regrets, pain, self pity... AND MOST OF ALL IT WAS FULL OF HOPE. MY FIRST TIME
